Thu, 12 March 2009 John Tillman president of the Illinois Policy Institute discusses proposals introduced to the Illinois General Assembly by House Republican Leader Tom Cross Wednesday supported by the IPI that call for reform in Illinois government. On Wednesday in Springfield, House Republican Leader Tom Cross and John Tillman, CEO, Illinois Policy Institute (IPI) will announce a comprehensive economic reform agenda that includes 4 pieces of legislation focused on curtailing runaway spending, injecting accountability into state budget operations and a commission dedicated to rooting out waste, fraud and abuse. The agenda is a collaboration between Cross and IPI; each entity developing portions of the policy agenda. As we discussed, this package is being introduced in the House alone on Wednesday. This major legislative agenda represents concrete proposals that will reduce irresponsible spending while offering concrete efforts to change Illinois’ flawed budget process. Overall, there is a whole host of conversations about what to do about the budget deficits and tax hike, but little conversation about having the government look inward to reduce spending and tightening its own belt before they ask taxpayers for a major tax hike (or two). on Mornings with Ray Hanania on Thursday March 12, 2009, WJJG 1530 AM Radio, www.RadioChicagoland.com. Mon, 23 February 2009 ![]() Bonnie Alicea, a mother, housewife and business consultant decided to run for mayor in the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook when she learned that the village had spent some $767,000 to "lease" golf carts (not even buy them). So she went to the village and obtained the election materials and then filed for mayor. The Bolingbrook election board, which is controlled by controversy plagued Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar -- whose police department is the same place that offere comfort an dsupport to Drew Peterson whose 3rd wife is missing and 2nd wife's death was ruled a homicide, rejected Alecia's petitions claiming the paperwork was wrong. Amazing. They also asserted she did not sign the petitions arguing that her petition signatures were different looking on two different pages. In suburban Chicagoland politics, you are guilty until proven innocent, expecially at the village controlled kangaroo election tribunals. Quigley is one of the commissioners who returns money not spent on expenses, and provides a detailed breakdown of how the monthly money is spent. This $14,400 stipend is in addition to the annual $85,000 county commissioner's salary. But several Commissioners, such as Joan Patricia Murphy of the 6th District and William Beavers of the 4th District, take the money like income. Should they pay taxes on money meant for reimbursement that is not used to reimburse expenses but is taken like salary?
